Notification- Destruction of Records
Under federal requirements, IDEA states that the destruction of records will not take place until 3 years past the time a student no longer receives IDEA services, which in most cases is 3 years after graduation. Many old special education records are still on file at school. We are working to rectify this, however, many of the contact addresses we have are undeliverable (i.e. rural route addresses). This is an attempt to notify as many people as possible that special education records from graduates over 3 years ago will be destroyed on or after November 1, 2019, unless we hear from you. If we have records that have deliverable, last-known addresses, we will also attempt to send a letter stating this information.
